To Grandfather:

The day I was born,
into this family I came,
lots of love, lots of people,
each one different, yet the same.

Similar by name,
the same features we share,
the same eyes, the same nose,
and even the same hair.

Although we are all family,
it wasn't long before I came to see,
you and I share a special trait,
that I hope was only given to you and me.

I could see it in your eyes,
I could hear it in your voice,
I know that you would take it from me,
if you were given the choice.

Please know that I'm alright,
please know that I'm okay.
The beast that lived inside you,
has finally left you today.

When you get up into Heaven,
please tell the big Man upstiars,
that although I really love Him,
it will be a while before I get there.

You see, I learned a lot from you,
I saw what cancer could do,
I will fight with all my might,
I won't let it take me, like it did you.

I know that I'm not ready,
I have my whole life to live,
The beast won't win this battle,
I will give it all I have to give.

Cancer has made me angry,
it makes me really mad,
it took you away, Grandfather,
and that made me really sad.

I will pray to you each day,
and wonder why it had to be,
that cancer has taken you away,
but I know it won't get me.

Dina's Updates
Justin Timberlake Pictures Here!!  Thank you, Justin!
In August 2002, Dina was diagnosed with PNET/ Ewing's Sarcoma of the chest wall.  She has undergone surgery which removed the tumor, 3 ribs and part of her diaphragm, 28 radiation treatments, and 14 rounds of chemo.  Dina has finished treatment in June 2003, and has been declared in remission, with No Evidence of Disease!! In January 2004, we had a little scare when Dina's routine CT came back as "abnormal".  It was thought that her cancer had recurred. She had another painful surgery, with 2 more ribs removed. Thank GOD it was only scar tissue that there were seeing. Dina is still cancer free!  She bounced back from that surgery  like a champ.  We thank God for each and every minute we have with her, we thank her amazing doctors of Winthrop's Cancer Center for Kids for getting us through the worst year of our lives, and we thank ALL of our family and friends for their support and love.
